“Challenge Accepted” Cake – cake decorated with the popular meme. Price available upon request.
it’s gonna be legen- wait for it…-dary!
This was my assignment after my Despicable Me cake project. I am familiar with the catchphrase “challenge accepted!” via Barney Stinson, a character in the hilarious hit TV show How I Met Your Mother. I didn’t know Barney’s famous line has become a meme. What is a meme anyway?
A meme (rhymes with gym) is “an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person to person within a culture,” as defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary. Examples are fashion trends, catchprases, and internet videos or photos that go viral.
This phenomenon is very popular with young kids today and a good friend’s daughter is no exception. Daughter L._ is soon entering high school and for her middle school graduation celebration, she wanted a cake design that will convey her attitude towards her future. I learned that she graduated with honors so the catchphrase is very apt indeed! Well done, L._!
The theme of the celebration was black and white and I was asked if I can make such a cake. Fortunately, I have the Ebony and Ivory (versions 1 and 2) in my cupcake repertoire so there was no need to look for a recipe. I just had to translate it into a cake.
The filling was dark chocolate ganache. The vanilla cake was made with vanilla sugar (sugar aged with real vanilla beans) and Madagascar bourbon vanilla, making it a vanilla bean cake. The frosting was whipped cream and the decorations were made of chocolate. Of course, the cake also had a shout out to the young grad found on the cake side.
My friend later told me the cake had a mishap in transit and some of the frosting were a bit scraped off as you can see below. Bumpy ride, perhaps?
When L._ was a young child, I made a birthday cake for her, a stand up teddy bear cake. Now, she’s grown to be an intelligent, lovely girl who is excited to tackle the challenges of high school life. Good luck L._ and continue to make yourself and your parents proud!

I just couldn’t resist titling this post as such. It is also one of Barney Stinson’s catchphrases and whenever he says it, it never fails to crack me up.

These are really cute! My sisetr-in-law made corn cob cookies last year for her son’s school class. Her’s were made with sugar cookies as the base, then a little frosting. On top of the frosting you put Reese’s Pieces and toped with yellow-green Fruit Roll-Ups as the husk. They were really fun to make. All the sisetrs and sisetrs-in-law got together to help make them.
